Monthly summary – January 2014
January 2014 saw a significant rise in the number of terror attacks: 189 attacks as opposed to 104 in December 2013. The rise occurred in all areas, but was prominent in Judea and Samaria with 164 attacks as opposed to 93 in December, while 36 of them occurred in "Jerusalem Envelope" . The Gaza Strip had a record of 16 attacks as opposed to 8 in December; and Jerusalem had a record of 7 attacks as opposed to 2 in December. 2 rocket attacks were executed from Sinai against the city of Eilat.

Two Israelis were targeted and injured this month: an IDF soldier (10 January) was lightly injured by a firebomb near Na'alin (Judea), and a citizen sustained moderate stab injuries near Damascus Gate in Jerusalem.

Following is a regional distribution of attacks: 16 attack from the Gaza Strip (8 in December); 164 attacks in the Judea and Samaria (93 in December); 7 attacks in Jerusalem (2 in December); 2 from Sinai toward Eilat (none in December).
  
Jerusalem and the Judea and Samaria area: Most attacks executed in January 146 out of 171 were in the form of firebombs (December: 78 out of 95). 
 
 
Distribution of attacks according to regions and pattern profile
 
Following is a distribution of attacks in January 2014 according to regions:

 
The Gaza Strip – 16 attacks: 11 rocket launchings; 2 mortar shell launchings; 3 IED.
 
Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem – 171 attacks: 21 IED; 3 small arms shootings; 1 stabbing attack (in Jerusalem); 146 firebombs (6 in Jerusalem).
 
Sinai – 2 rocket launchings towards Eilat.
 
 
High-trajectory launchings from Gaza Strip and Sinai
  
Throughout January 2014 22 rockets were launched** towards Israel, in 19 attacks (2 from Sinai towards Eilat), as opposed to December 2013: 4 rockets (in 4 attacks).
