In honour of International Women's Day (March 8), Noor presents a s creening of the documentary Rafea: Solar Mama, followed by a discussion with Professor Ananya Mukherjee-Reed.
Rafea: Solar Mama documents the journey of Rafea: a Bedouin woman from one of the poorest desert villages in Jordan, who travels to India to attend a six-month program training illiterate women from around the world to become solar engineers. Directed by Mona Eldaief and Jehane Noujaim.
Ananya Mukherjee-Reed (PhD) is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at York University. She is the author of numerous works, including the book Human Development and Social Power: Perspectives from South Asia (Taylor & Francis, 2008)

She is the author of numerous articles, and co-edited the books G lobalization, Gender and Religion: The Politics of Women's Rights in Catholic and Muslim Contexts (Palgrave MacMillan, 2001), and Women in Muslim Societies: Diversity within Unity (Lynne Rienner Pub, 1998) .
