Ottawa Media Launch for Niqab Study
On March 6, a media launch was hosted by the Institute of Canadian and Aboriginal Studies (University of Ottawa) and the Canadian Council of Muslim Women's (CCMW) for the "Women in Niqab Speak: A Study of the Niqab in Canada".This is the first study to give voice to Muslim women in Canada who wear the niqab. Dr. Lynda Clarke conducted the study, funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Results are based on 129 responses to a survey, focus groups, and personal interviews with women who wear the niqab.
Key speakers were Dr. Lynda Clarke, Associate Professor of Religion and Islam at Concordia University and Alia Hogben, Executive Director of CCMW and a Member of the Order of Canada.The media launch was part of Professor Salah Basalamah's (Associate Professor of School of Translation and Interpretation) seminar of "The Arabesque of Canadian Islam".

The Toronto chapter participated on the panel at CASSA's event "South Asian Women Empowering Change" at Malvern Community Recreation Centre.
